INVISALIGN: straight teeth - no braces

Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten teeth using a series of custom-made, nearly undetectable aligners. Whether your teeth are crowded, crooked, gapped, buck or have shifted since wearing braces, you'll have reason to smile.

THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY MAKES INVISALIGN POSSIBLE

THE FOUR STEPS TO STRAIGHT TEETH :

1) Upon an initial consultation, your accredited Enhance Dental dentist decides if Invisalign is right for you. Enhance Dental will then write a treatment plan and take an impression of your teeth, which are submitted to Invisalign.

2) Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, Invisalign carefully translates your dentists instructions into a series of precisely customized aligners. We then show you your crowded, crooked or gapped teeth on our computer and every movement needed to make your teeth straight.

3) You then wear each set of aligners for two to three weeks, moving your teeth gradually: week by week, millimetre by millimetre--until you've achieved straighter teeth.

4) You only need to visit us every 8-12 weeks. Generally, you visit Enhance Dental no more than you would with braces and the length of treatment is about the same. In many cases it takes less time than braces. Also, your teeth look great over the entire treatment course as they gradually become straighter.

Your Own Virtual Computer Simulation Before Treatment Even Starts!
Your Enhance Dental dentist begins by taking dental impressions, X-rays and photographs of your teeth and sending them to Align Technology.

The impressions are put through a CT scan from which a computer creates a three-dimensional model.

Technicians then individualize the teeth in the computer model and move them to their final position as prescribed by the dentist.

Custom software as shown to the left simulates the movement of the teeth in stages. The dentist reviews the simulation online using Align Technology's ClinCheck via a web browser and with your consent approves the treatment. Once approved, a plastic resin aligner is manufactured for each stage of the computer simulation and shipped to the dentist.
NO BRACES - NOTHING TO HOLD YOU BACK

Because there no metal wires and brackets, Invisalign is a comfortable. And because it's removable, eating, brushing and flossing are no problems. You can still enjoy your favorite foods and smile without holding back. With Invisalign, there's nothing to hide.

WHAT IS INVISALIGN ?

Invisalign® is the invisible new way to straighten teeth without braces. Invisalign® uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires. Over 730,000 adult and teen patients have had Invisalign treatment in private dental practices and clinical research worldwide. The number grows daily. Invisalign® is available in Australia, United States, Canada & Europe. Align Technology Incorporated, the company that manufactures Invisalign®, was founded in 1997. In 1945 Dr. Kesling envisioned that one day, modern technology would enable the use of a series of tooth positioners to produce the kinds of movements required for comprehensive orthodontic treatment. Align Technology has made this vision a reality.

WHAT IS THE MAIN BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN COMPARED TO BRACES ?

1) Invisalign® is nearly invisible - you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing. Even ceramic braces are very noticeable compared to invisalign.

2) Invisalign® is removable - you can eat and drink what you want in treatment; you can also brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene and prevent the possibility of decay or gum disease. Food can't get stuck around your teeth like it does with braces.

3) Invisalign® is comfortable - there are no metal brackets or wires to cause mouth irritation; no metal or wires also means you spend less time in the dentist's chair getting adjustments. Braces can sometimes be painful and can cause mouth ulcers.

4) Invisalign® allows you to view your own computerised treatment plan before you start - This means there will be no unexpected outcomes and you can see detailed three dimensional images of how straight your teeth will look and how long treatment should take. We will even allow you to view the computer image results and give us the go ahead only when you are totally satisfied with the final results. Most dental practices that also do Invisalign do not directly involve the patient at the planning stages. Also, treatment with braces does not use this highly advanced computer technology.

5) Invisalign® often does not require teeth removal. No removal of teeth means much less discomfort, reduced costs, quicker treatment and a fuller smile. With braces, teeth may need to be removed.

6) 90% of Dentists agree with the statement: "My Invisalign patients are happier than my braces patients during treatment.

The detailed information below explains a lot more about invisalign including how it works, how long treatment takes and how often you need to visit the dentist.

WHAT IS THE COST OF A CONSULTATION TO SEE IF I AM SUITABLE FOR INVISALIGN TREATMENT ?

A consultation fee is $68. Invisalign treatment is suitable for a large number of teenagers and adult patients. A percentage of this fee is claimable through our HICAPS terminal on the spot if you have dental cover with almost all health insurance companies. This is a very comprehensive and thorough consultation, which provides information about all options available that can improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. We use a highly specialised intra-oral camera to show you magnified colour images of your teeth on a large LCD screen. This ensures we are able to accurately determine how to best treat your dental concerns. A DVD and comprehensive information is also supplied at no extra charge that details the Invisalign method and manufacturing process.

Due to the fact that we have treated such a huge variety of patients from very mild through to extremely complex, we are able to show you the moving computer images of other patients teeth we have treated with Invisalign. Often we can find an example that will mimic your own situation. Patients find this very helpful in understanding the actual process and also very reassuring that we are most likely able to confidently improve the appearance of their teeth and smile. After your consultation visit we can then take records and create your own computer images of your actual teeth moving millimetre by millimetre so that you get to preview what is possible for you.

The consultation appointment will take 30 minutes.
Please ring Enhance Dental on (03)9533-8488 during our regular hours as listed below to make a consultation appointment:

Monday 7.30 am to 6.30 pm

Tuesday 7.30 am to 4.30 pm

Wednesday 7.30 am to 4.30 pm

Thursday 7.30 am to 4.30 pm

Friday 7.30 am to 2.00 pm

WHAT IS THE COST OF INVISALIGN ?

As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign® is heavily dependent on the complexity of a patient's case.

1) Initially records (photographs and impressions) are required. The fee for this is $490. This fee covers two appointments and allows you to see your teeth in 3D on computer virtually moving from start to finish. This allows you to make sure everything is what you expected and this will give you an indication of the time needed to complete treatment. This allows you the opportunity to assess how your teeth could look and if there is anything you are not happy with we will modify the treatment until you are totally satisfied. At this stage you are under no obligation to continue doing treatment if you do not wish to proceed.

2) The cost of Invisalign varies as follows-:

For minor crowding, that can be treated with 10 Invisalign aligners or less, the fee is from $2500 to $4900.
For moderate crowding the fee is from $4900 to $6990. The average fee being $5990.
For complex crowding the fee is from $6990 to $7990.

3) The cost of retainers to ensure your teeth remain straight once treatment is completed is $490.

Invisalign fees also include cosmetic bonding and cosmetic reshaping at no extra charge. This is exclusive to Enhance Dental.
As an example your teeth may have minor chips, irregularities or your canine teeth may be too pointy. These concerns will also be attended to without costing you an extra cent or having to find another dentist to fix these problems.
(An average saving of $1000 to $2000.)

The exact cost is determined once the computerised treatment plan is worked out and the number of aligners and complexity is fully analysed with the computer before any treatment commences.

WILL DENTAL INSURANCE COVER ANY OF THE COSTS OF MY INVISALIGN TREATMENT ?

If you have orthodontic coverage (braces), Invisalign® should be covered to the same extent as conventional braces. A percentage of this fee is claimable through our HICAPS terminal on the spot if you have major dental cover with almost all health insurance companies. Payment plans with a deposit can be arranged, 12 months interest free with no deposit or payment plans that can spread the costs over 2 to 4 years.

IS INVISALIGN TREATMENT TAX DEDUCTIBLE ?

YES!....A 20% Australian tax rebate (discount) is also available for any amount over and above the first $1500 spent on all dental and medical costs combined. As an example if the total fee for your treatment is $7000 then you will receive a discount of $1100. Meaning that you effectively pay $5900. We advise you confirm these details with your accountant or the Australian Tax Office in case the current conditions change.

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INVISALIGN ?

1) UP FRONT PAYMENT WITH 5% DISCOUNT

Payment in full for the entire cost of treatment at least seven days prior to the start of treatment. This option will save you 5% off the entire cost of treatment. (Book keeping courtesy). We can even accept payment by phone with either Master Card or Visa Card. Bank Cheques will also be accepted by post.

2) INTEREST FREE PAYMENT PLAN WITH DEPOSIT - EXCLUSIVELY FOR INVISALIGN TREATMENT

For Invisalign treatment 1st payment of $490 once records (impressions, photos etc) have been done. This fee covers two appointments and allows you to see your very own virtual teeth in 3D on our computer moving millimeter by millimeter from start to finish. This allows you to make sure everything is what you expected and this will give you an indication of the time needed to complete treatment. This also allows you the opportunity to asses how your teeth could look and if there isanything you are not happy with, we will modify the treatment untill you are totally satisfied. At this stage you are under no obligation to continue treatment if you do not wish to proceed.

2nd payment of $1950 is then payable when the initial invisalign aligners are supplied.
Equal installments are then payable up until two months prior to the completion of treatment on any balance outstanding.

3) UP TO 18 MONTHS INTEREST FREE* OR EXTENDED PAYMENT PLANS WITH NO DEPOSIT

Extended payment plans with no deposit offering a range of Interest Free* and Extended Payment* options for treatments from $2,500 to $8,990.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR INVISALIGN TREATMENT ?

Dentists can use Invisalign to treat a vast majority of patients with fully-erupted molars. Both adults, adolescents and teenagers may be suitable. Thousands of dentists are treating patients with Invisalign. It works for a wide range of people whose teeth are too crowded or have spaces between them, as well as for those whose teeth may have shifted after having worn braces in their youth. Invisalign can also be combined with other dental treatments.

HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK ?

Invisalign® uses 3-D computer imaging technology to show you the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position before treatment even starts. As soon as you are happy with the computer simulation, a series of custom-made "Aligners" are produced. Each "Aligner" moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two to three weeks, then replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved. Computer processing is not possible with braces. The computer simulation can also be used to estimate how long your treatment will take. Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and look similar to clear tooth-whitening trays, but are custom-made for a better fit to move teeth. They are like "contact lenses for teeth."

Invisalign® Aligners move teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled force on the teeth. The principal difference to braces is that Invisalign® not only controls forces, but also controls the timing of the force application. At each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move, and these movements are determined by the orthodontic treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system. If a tooth is very round in shape or requires complex movement then an almost invisible bump, known as an attachment, is temporarily bonded onto the specific tooth. This procedure causes absolutely no pain or discomfort and helps the aligner to grip the tooth and move it into position. In some complex cases elastics and other adjunctive methods may also be considered.

HOW LONG DOES INVISALIGN TAKE TO COMPLETE TREATMENT ?

Typically the treatment duration is similar to braces. An average time frame is 11 months but could take less than 6 months or around two years in more complex cases. The degree of changes required to obtain a perfect smile will determine the number of aligners required and the number of aligners determines the duration of treatment. Fortunately, unlike braces, the duration of treatment can be determined before treatment starts simply by viewing the simulated computerised movements of your teeth in less than a few minutes. During Treatment enhance dental will schedule regular appointments - usually about once every eight to twelve weeks. This way you can be sure the Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.

DO TEETH NEED TO BE REMOVED IF I AM HAVING INVISALIGN TREATMENT ?

Generally teeth are not removed when you have invisalign treatment. If your teeth are mildly crowded often space can be found by slightly expanding the dental arch, moving the molar teeth back, making some teeth a fraction of a millimetre narrower or moving teeth forward that are pushed too far back. Often with traditional braces teeth are removed and extra space may be created that was not needed. This can then lead to a longer treatment time with braces, a flatter looking smile or face. With Invisalign, the decision to remove teeth or not is easily decided by using the computerised treatment software. The virtual three dimensional computer model of your actual teeth can be programmed to see the end result with the option of teeth removed versus teeth not removed before any final decisions are made.

WHAT IF I AM PLANNING TO TRAVEL OR MOVE AWAY FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD ?

Many of our patients have chosen to do Invisalign even if they travel regularly or move away to another State or Country for an indefinite period. We have found that either extra aligners can be taken away with you, if it is a long trip, or if need be you can maintain the current position of your teeth by simply continuing to wear the same Invisalign aligner till you get back to see us. If your travel plans means that you will be away from our dental practice indefinitely then we can organise a case tranfer for you so that a Dentist in another state or country, that provides Invisalign, can continue your Invisalign treatment for you. We will determine what fees are owing to the stage you are on so that the balance of your fees can then be used to pay your new dentist. Invisalign will forward your photos and computer records to your new dentist, with your permission, so that your treatment will continue as seamlessly as possible.

WHAT IF I AM PLANNING TO GET MARRIED ?

Congratulations ! Many of our patients have chosen to do Invisalign even if they are getting married for many great reasons. Firstly every bride and groom wants to look there best on the most important day of their lives. Secondly you never need worry about your wedding day being spoilt by having visible braces. We will endeavor to tailor your treatment plan to enhance those teeth that show in your smile before your wedding day if you have not allowed enough time. This does not incur any extra fees and also includes any reshaping or bonding at no charge. Thirdly if you are planning a long honey moon and you have not completed treatment, it will not compromise your treatment.

IS INVISALIGN TREATMENT PAINFUL ?

No! Most people experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. This is normal and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that Invisalign® is working sequentially moving your teeth to their final destination. This discomfort typically goes away a couple of days after you insert the new Aligner in the series. Compared to traditional braces, which can sometimes be very painful, Invisalign is virtually pain free. In order to create space, if it is needed to straighten your teeth, some polishing of teeth may be required. (Typically less than 0.4 mm ) This has no detrimental effect on the tooth and is normally done without anaesthetic since it is pain free in most cases.

WILL INVISALIGN AFFECT MY SPEECH ?

Like all orthodontic treatments, Aligners may temporarily affect the speech of some people, and you may have a slight lisp for a day or two. However, as your tongue gets used to having Aligners in your mouth, any lisp or minor speech impediment caused by the Aligners should disappear. Aligners should be worn all day, except when eating, brushing and flossing. About 22 hours of wear per day.

WILL INVISALIGN AFFECT THE TYPES OF FOOD I CAN EAT ?

Unlike traditional wires & brackets, you can eat whatever you desire while in treatment because you remove your Aligners to eat and drink. Thus, there is no need to restrict your consumption of any of your favourite foods. However, a diet that is high in sugars and involves frequent snacks should be avoided . Also, it is important that you brush your teeth after each meal and prior to re-inserting your Aligners to maintain proper hygiene.

WILL MY TEETH REMAIN STRAIGHT AFTER INVISALIGN TREATMENT IS COMPLETED ?

In order to prevent your teeth moving after treatment is completed some patients might need a positioner, or a conventional retainer like those patients that have had braces. Other patients might need a clear plastic retainer similar to the ones Invisalign® makes. Removable retainers are only worn while sleeping. Every patient is different and the most suitable retainer will be discussed with you.

CAN ANY DENTIST DO INVISALIGN TREATMENT ?

No! Specific training is needed before dentists can begin treating patients with Invisalign. Dr Joseph Paino is Invisalign®-certified and fully accredited. Dr Paino is also a Member of the Australian Dental Association, Society of Dental Aesthetics, International Association for Dental Research and The Australian Society of General Dentistry. He has special interest in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Dentistry. These areas of Dentistry greatly enhance his expertise in treating Invisalign® cases. This means all options are explored before you commence Invisalign® treatment and if necessary, a combination of treatments can be considered in cases that may be more complex than usual.

I AM CURRENTLY WEARING BRACES, CAN I SWITCH TO INVISALIGN ?

Many patients have switched to Invisalign after wearing traditional braces for a period of time. We recommend that you consult Enhance Dental to determine if you can switch.

HOW DOES LINGUAL BRACES COMPARE TO INVISALIGN ?

Lingual braces are bonded to the backs of the upper and lower teeth. This method normally costs more than Invisalign or traditional braces and is often considered one of the most uncomfortable methods. It often effects the speech and the brackets are bonded to the backs of the teeth which may disturb or ulcerate the tongue. Cleaning is very difficult as food and plaque collect around the braces. Thorough cleaning is required or decay and gum disease may develop. Lingual braces normally take longer to complete treatment than traditional metal braces.

HOW DOES CERAMIC BRACES COMPARE TO INVISALIGN ?

Ceramic braces tend to be quite visible compared to Invisalign and often cost more than normal braces. The wires that pass through the ceramic brackets can be quite noticeable and may be coloured white in some cases to make them less obvious. Some patients complain about the ceramic brackets breaking off and/or discolouring. As with normal braces the ceramic braces may be uncomfortable and may irritate or ulcerate the mouth. Cleaning is quite difficult as food and plaque collects around the braces and you need to clean the teeth thoroughly to help prevent decay or gum disease.

As with any dental procedure it is important to note that results will vary for each individual situation. Any potential risks associated with your specific dental situation will be explained during your consultation at Enhance Dental.
