FISSURE
SEALANTS
ARE
ONE OF SEVERAL
METHODS OF
PREVENTING DECAY |
Deep
pits, fissures or grooves in teeth often cannot be reached by the fine bristles of a
tooth brush.
Plaque (bacteria) can then get trapped in the groove
and produce acid that may cause decay.

A fissure sealant is a protective tooth coloured hard resin coating
that is bonded in the grooves (fissure) and pits of teeth to help stop decay from forming.

Diagnodent Laser |

Fissure Sealant |

Xenon Halogen Light |
Our
dental practice uses the state of the art diagnodent laser to examine the groove so that the sealant is only placed
in grooves that have no decay present. A xenon halogen light cures
the sealant instantly and you can eat as soon as the treatment
is completed.
A Fissure Sealant often has the following characteristics:
1.
a comfortable procedure
2.
no needle is required
3.
high durability
4.
prevention of decay or fillings |
5.
prevention of complex treatment
6.
prevention of pain
7.
easier cleaning in the grooves of sealed teeth
8.
peace of mind |
Fissure sealants are usually suitable from around the age of six
years or older.
A permanent adult tooth that has a deep groove and
has not decayed may also be recommended for a fissure sealant.
