What is the Zoom! 3 Advanced Power Teeth Whitening procedure ?
The Zoom! Whitening procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. The accredited and trained Enhance Dental dentist then applies the proprietary Zoom Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least six to twelve shades whiter.
We recommend a consultation and a thorough clean around one or two weeks before the Zoom! Teeth Whitening procedure if you have tartar or superficial stains. BACK

How does Zoom! 3 Advanced Power Teeth Whitening work ?
The Zoom! In-surgery Tooth Whitening System consists of a halide lamp filtered to emit light in the 350nm - 400nm range.
Unlike other systems the Zoom! light generates minimal heat which helps make the procedure comfortable.
The Zoom light activated gel was developed after years of research by Discus Dental, the leaders in professional tooth whitening. The gel is a proprietary scientifically formulated, pH balanced Hydrogen Peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom! light, gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. The Zoom! light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel. The production of highly saturated oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide gel breaks down the size of long chained molecules that stain tooth enamel. (Examples of these molecules are coffee, tea, tobacco, chocolate, red wine, sauce and beetroot.) As these "teeth staining" molecules become smaller they release themselves from within the tooth enamel while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. Whiter and brighter teeth is then achieved. The Zoom company has worked extensively with optics experts for many months to create a new custom Sodium-Free Short Arc bulb, which emits the optimal bleaching spectrum at the highest power output of any chair side whitening system ever.

Zoom! patients may experience 67% less sensitivity than those treated with the original Zoom! system - a system heralded for its low sensitivity characteristics. The new Zoom! advanced optical guidance system ensures quick, precise patient set-up for optimal results. A study has shown that use of the Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 33% or more, giving an average improvement of eight shades. How long does Zoom! 3 Advanced power Teeth Whitening Take ?
The actual amount of time the proprietary Zoom light is shining on your teeth is between 30 to 45 minutes. The complete procedure, however requires 90 minutes. Most patients watch a current DVD movie we have available through our cinematic movie glasses. The whole experience is then a whole lot more enjoyable and the time may seem faster. Also the movie glasses can be used for any longer dental procedures done at Enhance Dental. These help you to relax and enjoy a high-tech virtual wide screen cinema movie during the Zoom whitening procedure.
We have over 40 DVD movie titles to choose from. Otherwise you can bring your own DVD movie or CD. For others who may prefer music, we also have piped music for a relaxing diversion. BACK

How white will my teeth become ?
 Clinical studies have shown that the Zoom teeth whitening treatment achieves up to 12 shades lighter with the average being 6 - 8 shades. Individual results may vary and will depend upon your age, type of stain, initial tooth colour and any visible restorations (White fillings, crowns etc). Please ask our qualified dental staff how much whiter your teeth can be and we will show you what is possible on a tooth shade guide as shown above. To boost your results we recommend using custom made whitening trays for only 30 minutes a day for 5 to 10 days. BACK

How long do the results last ?
To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily and use of take-home whitening gel and custom made teeth whitening trays used once or twice per year as the results can slowly fade. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available only through your dental professional. Six monthly general cleans and checkups are also recommended to remove any resistant surface stains and to keep your teeth and gums healthy for life. BACK

Can Zoom! 3 Advanced Power Teeth Whitening work if I have already tried other whitening systems in the past ?
 If you have used other in-surgery procedures and/or take-home whitening systems and/or over the counter products or any other systems that claim to be the same as Zoom! we have found that Zoom! Teeth Whitening may still be able to further improve the results. However, we would need to consult you first. If you have deep stains caused by tetracycline antibiotics or your front teeth have been treated then your teeth may only whiten a fraction more. Other options then may need consideration and will be fully explained to you. BACK

Does it work on veneers, crowns or tooth coloured bonded materials ?
The Zoom teeth whitening treatment is designed to work on tooth enamel only. A scale and clean may be able to help remove minor surface stains from veneers, crowns and tooth coloured bonded materials. During your consultation we will discuss your particular situation. BACK

Is Zoom! 3 Advanced Power Teeth Whitening safe ?
Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a Zoom trained and accredited dentist is safe. The active ingredient in the Zoom teeth whitening treatment is Hydrogen Peroxide that changes to oxygen. This has been safely used in dentistry for over a hundred years. Numerous scientific articles have shown that using hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth is effective and safe. It has also been thoroughly studied, tested and found safe by university researchers. The Zoom teeth whitening treatment has no adverse effect on stable existing restorations (fillings or crowns etc), and does not rub away, soften, damage or weaken the enamel tooth structure. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women. Will it hurt ?
Some people will experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to hot or cold during or after treatment.
These symptoms normally disappear within 1-3 days after completion of the treatment. The temporary sensitivity can be minimal for some yet others will notice it similar to ice-cream sensitivity. Tooth whitening is a well-established procedure in cosmetic dentistry.
